New
online store for Stuttgart watch
maker
I have worked making watches for many
years now; I find the whole history of watches, clocks and time
pieces fascinating. I run a busy shop in Stuttgart, which
stocks watches, most of the watches which I keep on general
sale and unique time pieces, which I have trawled the world
for. I used to sell less unique time pieces but found that by
limiting my market I could make more money.
Although I was making a fair profit from stocking these watches
in my shop in Stuttgart (Uhren Stuttgart), I found that there
were customers who wanted some of the time pieces I offered
to be shipped out of Stuttgart and around Europe. I thought
that this was the ideal opportunity which I had been looking
for, so I decided the way forward would be to open a shop
online, so that not only customers in Stuttgart could find
what they want, but my watches would then be on general sale
across the world.
I felt that the best way to pursue this would be to put so many
of my watches on line first, say five or six, then if these
successfully sold I would have an idea of what sort of market I
was aiming to attract.
I took six watches from my jewellery display in Stuttgart and
took photos of them from different angles. I then designed my
web page around the watches, putting on the relevant
information that any customer would want to know with regards
to the watches, and of course putting the price next to the
watch.
I launched the site on a Monday and by the Wednesday evening I
already had two customers interested in one of the watches
displayed. One of the customers was from the USA and the other
from France. They were both interested in the same watch, which
was a ladies watch. I sold to the first customer that looked
which was the customer in the USA. I emailed the other customer
and persuaded her to buy one of the other watches which were
also on our display.
After the watches had been on display for two months on the
internet, I decided it was time to research the ones which
seemed to be selling more than the others, this would enable me
to have the right kind of stock in for our online customers at
all times.
Most of the watches that were sold were ladies and they were
watches which had originated from Stuttgart. I put one the
watches which were a big seller and also decided that I would
put on some other items of jewellery too, Stuttgart jewellery
(Juwelier Stuttgart) which made a
good match to most of the watches was decided on.
I have now had my online store up and running now for several
months and I am finding that business is going really well.
Having a store online saves on the money I would pay for rent
in Stuttgart, by selling from a shop.
